Language Stuff - Neologisms

I'm taking a few moments out from working on the sequel to 'Heart of Gold' to consider neologisms.

Like most writers, I love words. Playing with them, stretching them, substituting them, it's all intriguing fun.

I love a good new word, too. My favourite newish word is one that all young people know, and they think it's been around for ever. It beautifully describes that sensation we get if we eat ice-cream too fast, that dull achey feeling in the forehead.

Brainfreeze.

It's just so perfect, I wish it had've been around when I was young. And consider the alternatives. 'Ice cream headache' is pedestrian. 'Cold headache' is worse. Sphenopalatine Ganglioneuraglia has a sort of grandeur, but it hardly rolls off the tongue, even if it is the official medical term.

Anyone out there got any good neologisms?

Comments

I like McMansion. It's funny cause it's true.
