Entries for Viva La Novella 2021 are now open

Seizure's Viva La Novella is accepting entries for its 9th competition, which aims to discover new Australian and New Zealand voices.

Viva La Novella was first launched by the Seizure literary journal in 2012, and has seen winners such as Marlee Jane Ward, whose novella Welcome to Orphancorp was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier's Literary Award, and Mirandi Riwoe, whose novella The Fish Girl was shortlisted for the Stella Prize.

This year Viva La Novella is partnering with The Foundation for Australian Literary Studies, with the aim of strengthening representation of regional writers. To that end, the 9th Viva La Novella will have two winners, with one winning place reserved for a regional writer.

Submissions must be between 20 - 50 000 words in length, with no limit on genre, and no entry fee. Each winner will receive a $1000AUD prize, as well as a publishing contract covering print and digital formats, and royalties from the sale of their fist book.

Entries close 31 December 2020, with the shortlist announced 1 February 2021, and the winners published 1 September 2021. For the full list of guidelines and details on how to submit, click here
