OzAsia Festival launches a new writing and ideas program

OzAsia Festival has announced a new writing and ideas program called In Other Words, a forum to showcase the best Asian and Asian Australian writers and thinkers.

The festival is held annually in Adelaide and runs from the 21 October to 7 November with In Other Words being held on the closing weekend from the 5 to 7 November at Adelaide Festival Centre’s Dunstan Playhouse.

Over the course of three days the program will bring together various contemporary writers and performers to open a conversation about power, identity, community, grief, and more. Featured guests include, Adam Liaw, Hetty McKinnon, Larissa Behrendt, Amani Haydar, Marc Fennell, Jennifer Wong and Oliver Phommavanh.

In Other Words is curated by Laura Kroetsch, and guest curators include writer and broadcaster Benjamin Law and Indian Australian author Roanna Gonsalves.

Guest Curator and author Benjamin Law says, "OzAsia Festival is a brilliant celebration of Asian Australian culture and a community whose presence here pre-dates white arrival. It’s also a brilliant opportunity to take stock of Australia's place in the Asia Pacific, and have some of the most urgent conversations about our shared futures."

The program will also be livestreamed and available online from OzAsia Festival website, with many of the speakers joining via video link due to the current covid restrictions.
