One of the smallest books in the world sold at an auction in Brussels for approximately AU $6 500 (£3500).

The book titled The Lord’s Prayer, is leather bound and measures at 5mm by 5mm and contains various translations of the Lord’s Prayer in Dutch, English, American English, French German, Spanish and Swedish.

The book was one of hundreds published in 1952 by the Gutenberg Museum, in Germany, to help raise money to pay for the museums rebuilding after World War II.

The auctioneer, Henri Godts said: “The printed text is so minuscule that you cannot read it with the naked eye but need a strong magnifying glass.” And added that, “The copy has been in a collection for dozens of years and is kept in a jewel box as if it were a gem. You could even incorporate it into a transparent jewel and wear it around your neck, if you so wish.”

The book was originally valued between €1000 and €1500 but an anonymous buyer purchased the book above the estimated selling price.
