Neil Gaiman's Sandman series is coming to Netflix

Neil Gaiman's Sandman series is coming to Netflix

Netflix has announced it is adapting Neil Gaiman's Sandman series into a television show, in what is reportedly the streaming giant's most expensive production yet.

It's the third TV adaption of a Neil Gaiman work to come to fruition, after Amazon Prime's adaoption of his and Terry Pratchett's novel Good Omens, and the STARZ adaption of American Gods.  The series will be a co-production between Warner Bros. Television, DC Entertainment and Netflix, making it one of the biggest deals for these companies.

11 episodes have been ordered, with Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey's Anatomy) acting as writer and showrunner. Gaiman will act as executive producer alongside David Goyer.

The announcement comes after over 20 years of attempts to turn the series of graphic novels into a TV show or film franchise, including a potential script from Warner Bros. that Neil Gaiman claims was "the worst [he's] ever read".

Time will tell how the series once considered 'unadaptable' will turn out on the small screen - but with Neil Gaiman producing, the future certainly looks bright!
