2019 Ned Kelly Award winners announced (and they're all women!)

The 2019 Ned Kelly Award winners have been announced, recognising the best in Australian crime writing. And for the first time ever, all three prizes have been awarded to women!

The 'Neds' (as they are known) were presented last Friday at the opening night of the BAD: Sydney Crime Writers Festival.

Jane Harper won the best fiction prize for her third novel, The Lost Man. It marks the fourth time a woman has won the best fiction Ned. Harper also won the Sisters in Crime Davitt Award's Reader's Choice category last week

Dervla McTiernan won the debut fiction award for her novel The Ruin. This also comes after she won the Sisters in Crime Davitt Award for best fiction.

Similarly, Bri Lee's Eggshell Skull won the true crime ned, a week after winning the best debut Davitt Award. Eggshell Skull focuses on how cases of sexual abuse are dealt with in the legal system, based on Bri Lee's experience as a Judge's Associate in Queensland.  For more info, listen to our interview with Bri Lee on our gr Podcast
