Joelle Taylor wins TS Eliot poetry prize

Joelle Taylor has won the 2021 TS Eliot poetry prize for her collection C+nto & Othered Poems which looks at butch lesbian counterculture in the 1990s.

The collection is Taylour’s fourth and is part-memoir and part-conjecture, and looks at the communities women created in the 90s to help reclaim their own bodies.

The TS Eliot award is one of the most prestigious prizes in British poetry and the winner is awarded a prize of £25,000.

The award is run by the TS Eliot Foundation and is judged by a panel of purely established poets.

Chair of the judging panel, Glyn Maxwell said about their choice: “The arguments towards the end were passionate and thoughtful, but the choice of the judging panel is Joelle Taylor’s C+nto and Othered Poems, a blazing book of rage and light, a grand opera of liberation from the shadows of indifference and oppression.”
