Don't Panic: A new Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy TV series is coming

Streaming giant Hulu (alongside ABC Signature) have announced they are developing a TV adaptiation of Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books.

At the head of development is well-known showrunner Carlton Cuse (Jack Ryan, Lost) and writer Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman). Unfortunately, that's all the details we have so far. The reboot may have been inspired by the popularity of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which has aired on Netflix and the BBC.

Beginning as a BBC radio play, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy became a hugely popular and influential series of books. It's been adapted to TV and film multiple times, most recently in 2005 staring Martin Freeman, Zooey Deschanel, Mos Def, Bill Nighy, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman.

The 2005 adaptation garnered mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, so it's safe to say the upcoming series will be under heavy scrutiny as it develops. WIth the success of Dirk Gently however, odds are looking good that this time around the antics of Dent & Co will be done justice.
