Hilary Mantel announces final book in Thomas Cromwell trilogy, The Mirror and the Light

Eight years after we last saw Thomas Cromwell, author Hilary Mantel has announced he'll grace the page for one last time in the final novel of her iconic historical fiction series. Titled The Mirror and the Light, it's slated for a March 2020 release.

Starting with Wolf Hall in 2009, the series expands upon the life of Thomas Cromwell, Chief Minister for King Henry the VIII of England. The Mirror and the Light is set to begin where the preceding novel Bring Up The Bodies left off, with Thomas Cromwell having sucessfully pulled off the execution of Anne Boleyn. In the vivid detail we've come to expect from Hilary Mantel we'll experience the last four years of his life before he is executed himself under sucpicions of heresey.

With both Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies winning the Booker prize and selling a combined 1.5 million copies, The Mirror and the Light is one of the most anticipated novels of the decade. Hilary Mantel has said of the novel,

“I hope [the readers] will stay with me as we walk the last miles of Cromwell’s life, ascending to unprecedented riches and honour and abruptly descending to the scaffold at Tower Hill. This book has been the greatest challenge of my writing life, and the most rewarding; I hope and trust my readers will find it has been worth the wait.”
