Watch the new teaser trailer for season 3 of The Handmaid's Tale

During the 2019 Super Bowl, Hulu dropped a teaser trailer for the forthcoming season of its critically acclaimed series The Handmaid’s Tale.

The series, based on Magaret Atwood's bestselling dystopian novel of the same name, is in its third season, and the 30-second TV spot hints at more darkness and vengeance to come.

The opening of the ad recreates Ronald Reagan’s famous 1984 political ad, “Morning again in America,” almost word-for-word. “It’s morning again in America,” an unseen narrator says cheerily. “Today, more women will go to work than ever before in our nation’s history”.

A clever wink to the source material, given Margaret Atwood’s novel was a direct challenge of 1980s Reaganism and its paternalistic, conservative agenda.

The show has already moved past Atwood’s original material, expanding deeper into Gilead and world beyond it. While having acted as a consulting producer for the television series, Atwood herself has decided to deviate from the screenplay, announcing in November last year that a sequel to the original novel is in the works, over 30 years later. The new book, The Testaments will have no connection to the TV series.

The Handmaid’s Tale season three will premiere on Hulu later this year. The release date has not yet been announced.
