Manchester Writing School encourages coronavirus poetry

Fans of poetry will be pleased to hear that a range of new poems about the coronavirus pandemic are being published by the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Creative Director and popular poet Carol Ann Duffy has encouraged poets from around the world to write new works on the current situation and the weeks to come. The poems take either a personal focus or cover the pandemic situation generally.

‘We need the voice of poetry in times of change and world-grief. A poem only seeks to add to the world and now seems the time to give,’ said Duffy of the project.

The poems are presented on the Manchester Metropolitan University website in date order, each with a poem about where it was written.

Submissions are still being taken, and the collection is growing continuously.

Readers are welcome and encouraged to share any of the poems, and are invited to attach the hashtag #WWWAN or tag @MCRWritingSchl on social media.
