Colin Roderick Literary Award 2021 finalists announced

The Foundation for Australian Literary Studies have announced the shortlist for the Colin Roderick Literary Award.

The award celebrates the best original book about Australian life and submissions can hail from any writing genre. Five of the six finalists this year are women, signifying a promising and exciting year for female authors. Additionally, the shortlist this year is also dominated by fiction entries, with only one nonfiction submission making the cut.

Consolation, Garry Disher (Text Publishing)

Consolation by Disher is a crime novel that follows a police officer called Paul Hirschhhausen in a small country town in South Australia.

Melting Moments, Anna Goldsworthy (Black Inc.)

Melting Moments looks at the daily domestic life of women in twentieth-century Australia. 

The Survivors, Jane Harper (Pan Macmillan Australia)

In this ‘whodunnit’ Harper looks at a the various relationships and conflicts in a small tourist town.

Infinite Splendours, Sofie Laguna (Allen & Unwin)

This story follows the life of an isolated recluse who sustains himself with art and nature. 

Witness, Louise Milligan (Hachette Australia)

From award winning investigative journalist Louise Milligan, this non-fiction book provides insight into how witness experience the judical system in cases of sexual assault.

A Lonely Girl is a Dangerous Thing, Jessie Tu (Allen & Unwin)

This novel provides a first person account of a young musical prodigy as she navigates her life in Sydney and New York.
