A bookish paradise: Clunes Booktown Festival 2020

The ultimate Australian book festival will be taking place in the quaint country town of Clunes, Victoria this May.

The annual Booktown festival, now in its’ 13th year, will occur over the weekend from the 2nd-3rd of May. The festival already has an impressive list of authors in attendance, whose books range from children’s picture books to adult literature.

This year, the festival is expected to venture into topics of crime, young adult fiction, memoir, and environment and climate via a series of panel discussions and speeches delivered by the bill of authors.

Across the weekend, Clunes will offer a street-long bookshop in the centre of town, as well as live music and street performers. Exhibitions, and samples of local food and wine are also to be expected at the festival.

The Booktown festival is a great weekend of tourism for the Clunes community.

Clunes is the only Australian town that belongs to the International Organisation of Booktowns.

A booktown is a small, regional community-focused town with a concentration of booksellers, usually in the form of second-hand bookstores.

Visitors are encouraged to travel in from Melbourne via train or car, which is only a 90-minute journey.

Tickets to the festival cost $10, and author talks cost $15 to attend.
