Canadian bookstore fosters local kittens

A Canadian bookstore is facilitating the adoption of local kittens by letting them roam through the shop and meet the customers as they shop for books.

Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has paired up with a local rescue group, South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia to build an extensive fostering program within the store.

The owner of Otis & Clementine’s, Ellen Helmke, started the fostering program last year. A mother cat and a number of kittens will be present in the store at any given time.

Since launching last year, Ellen has seen a 100% adoption rate with 30 kittens finding forever homes among customers in her store.

Being in the store has also helped the cats with socialise with people, which increases their chances of adoption.

The store has become a social media sensation, with many taking to Facebook to praise Ellen for her dedication to the kittens.

‘What a kind soul you are to help these beautiful cats and kittens find their furever homes,’ wrote one customer.

The kittens are also very popular on Instagram, where customers have shared many pictures of the kittens among the books and comfy store furniture.

Ellen has warned that if a cat does catch your attention, it’s best to adopt quickly, as the kittens come and go very quickly.
