Booker Prize 2020 Shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2020 Booker Prize was recently announced, celebrating the most noteworthy books published in the last year. 

Beloved Aussie author Lee Child is among the judging panel, who together shortlisted three authors from the United States, and one each from Scotland, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. 

The announcement comes after The Discomfort of Evening by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld (translated by Michele Hutchinson) took out the international Booker Prize earlier in the year. 

Last year, Bernardine Evaristo and Margaret Atwood made Booker Prize history by each taking out the top prize, for their books Girl, Woman, Other and The Testaments, respectively. 

The winner of the 2020 prize will be announced 17 November - in the meantime, check out the full shortlist and announcement video below:

  • This Mournable Body by Tsitsi Dangarembga (Faber & Faber)
  • Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi (Hamish Hamilton, Penguin Random House)

  • Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart (Picador, Pan Macmillan)
  • Real Life by Brandon Taylor (Originals, Daunt Books Publishing)
