Eric Bana is heading to Bremer Bay, Perth to film Tim Winton's 'Blueback'

Fresh off the success of The Dry, Eric Bana and director Robert Connoly are teaming up once again, this time to take on Tim Winton's novella Blueback.

Filming is set to take place at various Western Australia locations, including Ningaloo Reef and the Great Southern coast. Bana will be starring alongside Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Radha Mitchell (Olympus Has Fallen).

The film will follow Abby (Abel from the original novella), who discovers a wild groper while diving at the beach. She soon discovers that the fish is under threat from local poachers, and takes it upon herself to defend her newfound friend. Mia Wasikowska will be playing Abby as an adult, while new actors Ariel Donoghue and Isla Fogg will be playing younger versions of the character.

The film is the latest collaboration between director Robert Connolly and Eric Bana - their latest project, the adaptation of Jane Harper's The Dry, recently raked in over $17 million at the Australian box office. This is also Connolly's second adaptation of a Winton work, following his 2013 short film collection based on The Turning.
