PSA: The TV adaptation of Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' is dropping next month

If you found yourself disappointed by how the 2007 film version of The Golden Compass (aka Northern Lights) treated Philip Pullman's epic fantasy series, your prayers have finally been answered! The BBC and HBO have joined forcesto adapt the entire trilogy to television, and the first season is dropping next month.

Starring Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ruth Wilson, episodes written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and the first two episodes written by Tom Hooper (The King's Speech), the show looks like an absolute blockbuster. It follows Lyra (Dafne Keen) as she searches for a missing friend, uncovering a sinister plot involving stolen children and a supernatural phenomenon called Dust.

HBO recently released a trailer for the first season, which you can watch below. At first glance it looks a lot darker than the 2007 film, so if you've got a gaping Game of Thrones-shaped hole in your heart, this might be the next best thing to fill it!

The full first season will be dropping exclusively via FOXTEL NOW Tuesday 5 November.
