Anne Rice, author of Interview with the Vampire, has died at the age of 80

American author Anne Rice, who wrote the bestselling 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire has died at the age of 80.

Anne Rice wrote over 30 books which sold more than 150 million copies. She was best-known for her series of novels, The Vampire Chronicles.

Her best-known novel Interview with the Vampire was her debut novel and was adapted into an acclaimed film starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst in 1994.

The novel is also set for a television adaptation in 2022.

Anne Rice’s son, Christopher, made a statement on Sunday, saying she ‘passed away due to complications resulting from a stroke. She left us almost nineteen years to the day my father, her husband Stan, died. The immensity of our family’s grief cannot be overstated.’ And added, ‘Let us take comfort in the shared hope that Anne is now experiencing firsthand the glorious answers to many great spiritual and cosmic questions, the quest for which defined her life and career.’
