Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer's 'Tuscan Cookbook' to become a film

Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer's 'Tuscan Cookbook' to become a film

Arcadia has begun development on Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer’s bestselling book Tuscan Cookbook as a film.

Tuscan Cookbook was published by Penguin in 1998 and takes readers on an Italian adventure, beginning in 1997 when Alexander and Beer left Australia to run a cooking school outside of Vienna. The book provides insight into their time over there, the food cooked, the places they visited and the people they met along the way.

The feature film will be written by Australian film and television writer Katherine Thomson whose credits include Amazon’s A Place to Call Home and the feature documentary Women He’s Undressed.

Arcadia’s Lisa Shaunessy will produce the film with Alandra Burke acting as executive producer.

According to Variety, Burke said: 'There is a wonderful story of friendship and adventure within the pages of the Tuscan Cookbook. It also struck me just how relevant their ideas on modern food production and preparation, indigenous rights, multiculturalism and gender equality are today.'
